Working out conception date dating scan
Its so common to lose between a few days to a few weeks at your dating scan.
No pregnancy is textbook so changes that happen to your body and symptoms you get don't happen at a certain time.
So if you have a blood test at 14 weeks, the results would be of no help if a scan later revealed you were actually 16 weeks pregnant when the blood was taken. The main reason for the scan is to work out how many weeks pregnant you are, and to estimate your due date.
If the blood test is taken too early because your dates are wrong, this might lead to you being given a high risk factor when, in fact, your baby is developing normally. The length of your pregnancy is calculated from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP), even though you don't actually conceive until 14 days after your LMP, and later than this if your cycle is longer than 28 days.
also feeling alot of twinges and pulling sensations which i don't remember first time around is this normal? x Well they always calculate due date based on your period. If you know your exact date of conception you either add 2 weeks to that date or just count 38 weeks from that date. So technically speaking a women is never actually pregnant for her first 2 weeks.
Remember: even if you could narrow conception down to the hour (which is impossible because you could've ovulated a day later, and sperm can live for up to 72 hours, viably, inside of you) it's still an EDD (estimated due date). They won't wait for a certain date so it really doesn't matter if you count 38 weeks from conception, or 40 weeks from LMP.
The LMP is used because most women know when their last period was, but may not know when they actually conceived.
If you do know the conception date, this is classed as day 14 and not day one.
so do i count 40 weeks from conception date or what.. lol this is second pregnancy but i didn't have all this with my first as she was my unplanned miracle!
before I say fine to inductions or no home water birth. with my daughter kayla i was expecting a period on 23/08/07 (ages ago lol and my birthday) yet it didnt come.
we dtd on 23rd and 24th august and then on 6th sept i did a test which was positive.
When you calculate your due date from your last period you know you aren't pregnant for at least the first few days of it because you're on your period and then it may be a further 2 weeks before you ovulate, depending on your cycle if you get me so at the beginning after that period you're not actually pregnant. I dunno if that made sense......mebbe someone else can put it in better words? They put me over a week ahead which was impossible as I knew the date of conception and I was still on my period when they reckoned I conceived plus I was in the process of moving at the time too (didn't just have one big moving day spread it out over a week) so the only way my 12 week scan was right is if it was immaculate conception in which case I will sell my story to the paper and never have money worries again lol.
I really don't have much faith in them to be honest.
